  • ENDODROME exhibited at Casino Luxembourg

We are pleased to announce Casino Luxembourg’s exhibition of ENDODROME, a VR experience directed by the artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and produced by HTC Vive and Lucid Realities.

From February 18th to April 16th 2023, the Casino Luxembourg will host an exhibition curated by Kevin Muhlen to showcase VR experience Endodrome.

Endodrome is the first virtual reality artwork by pioneering artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. It shows the artist’s exploration of notions of space, alternative states of consciousness and interiority.

Presented in a staged environment, Endodrome can be experienced by up to five people at once, with its theatrical setting evoking the experience of a séance, incorporating sound, light, and projections of the visions that viewers experience via the VR headsets.

The eight-minute experience begins by immersing viewers in a hypnotic, monochrome environment, before moving into an abstract visual space, in which bright color fields shift in response to gaze and breath.

The artwork draws on the artist’s experience of sound-induced cognitive trance with musician and author Corine Sombrun, who collaborated with the artist to create the soundscape.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11am to 7pm. Thursday 11am to 9pm. Closed on Tuesday. Free admission.

  • A NIGHT UNDER THE FULL MOON unveiled at the Jam Capsule

From February 17th, the Jam Capsule opens its doors to the new immersive film A night under the full Moon by François de Riberolles, a Lucid Realities and Camera Lucida co-production.

Since the dawn of time, the fates of the Earth and the Moon have been intertwined. Both a biological pendulum and a universal reference point for all civilizations, the Moon seems to dictate the rhythm of all life on Earth. The star who plays the heartbeat of the oceans is also an unrivaled source of fascination for humankind. She who changes face every night has inspired human beings in their quest for knowledge about nature and themselves, all the while bolstering their imagination.

A night under the full Moon takes us on a magical odyssey across four billion years of evolution, at the crossroad of reality and myth. In the fashion of a scientific tale, the immersive film (360° projection) unveils the diverse chapters of a unified story… The story of a planet that could not have survived without the Moon.

This new cultural and immersive experience will be unveiled from 17 February at the Jam Capsule, an innovative scenic device with a giant screen for 360° projections in 1500m2 of exhibition space. For the first time a Lucid Realities and Camera Lucida co-production will access this fascinating space to leave visitors speechless.

  • “CHAMPOLLION, the Egyptian” showcased in two prestigious French museums: the Louvre-Lens and the Louvre Museum

For the 200th anniversary of Champollion’s deciphering of the hieroglyphs, Lucid Realities and Tournez s’il-vous-plaît are pleased to showcase the virtual reality experience “Champollion, the Egyptian”, written and directed by Agnès Molia & Gordon, in two of the greatest French museums, also coproducers of the program: the Louvre-Lens, from 28th September 2022 to 16th January 2023 and the Louvre Museum in Paris, from 14th December to 9th January 2023

    The Louvre-Lens: an exhibition event
    “Champollion. The Hieroglyphic Way”

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Champollion’s deciphering of the hieroglyphs and its 10th anniversary, the Louvre-Lens organized a major exhibition dedicated to one of the most fascinating emblems of Egyptian civilization: the hieroglyphs. The exhibition “Champollion. La voie des hieroglyphs” (“Champollion. The Hieroglyphic Way”), from 28th September 2022 to 23rd January 2023, proposed to decipher the history of Jean-François Champollion and the context which enabled this scientist to discover this thousand-year-old secret, through a visit of more than 350 works such as sculptures, paintings, art objects, documents, and graphic art. At the end of the exhibition, a VR space including 10 virtual reality headsets stations has been set-up by the team of Lucid Realities to present the experience “Champollion, the Egyptian”: a virtual visit of the temple of Abu Simbel, such as the one undertaken by Jean-François Champollion, 7 years after having pierced the mystery of hieroglyphs.

Louvre Museum: a special program combining a guided tour of the Egyptology collection and the VR experience

The Louvre Museum in Paris is also celebrating the anniversary by exceptionally offering the public, from September 28th to February 16th 2023, two guided visits entitled “Regarder et déchiffrer avec Champollion” (“Looking and deciphering with Champollion”) in the rooms of the Department of Egyptian Antiquities, with a rich program of activities and workshops. At the end of the guided visits, in another room, visitors can enjoy the virtual reality experience written and directed by Agnès Molia & Gordon and co-produced by Lucid Realities, Tournez s’il-vous-plait, Louvre-Lens, the Louvre Museum. Thanks to a virtual reality device, visitors could slip into Champollion’s shoes to relive the intimate experience of his entry into the temple. By the light of the torch, accompanied by the voice of Champollion, the visitor-explorer enters the temple, reconstructed from David Roberts’ watercolors. Step by step he discovers its masterpieces, from the gigantic bas-relief of the battle of Qadesh to the sculptures of Ramses II and the gods Ra-Harakhty, Amun-Ra and Ptah…

  • ENDODROME presented at the Bundeskunsthalle

From the 8th of April to the 7th of August 2022, Endodrome will be presented at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, Germany, as part of the exhibition ‘Farbe ist Programm – Teil 1’ (‘Color is the program – 1st part’).

Endodrome is the first virtual reality artwork by pioneering artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. It is produced by HTC Vive Arts and line produced by Lucid Realities.

The Bundeskunsthalle’s website presents its exhibition as follows :

“With the dawn of the age of technical reproducibility over a century ago, the presence of color increased steadily and exponentially: a veritable invasion of color and its underlying as well as rapidly changing media possibilities took place – and is still taking place. Emblematic of this process in recent history may be the starting signal with which the then Vice Chancellor Willy Brandt ushered in the era of color television in West Germany on August 25, 1967, thus literally making TV programming more colorful.”

According to them, “Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster’s (*1965) Endodrome […] push[es] the idea of a coded or immersive digital experience towards the present and beyond.”

The artwork title “Endodrome” derives from the Greek word endon, meaning ‘internal’, and dromos, meaning ‘running, race track’. Endodrome continues Gonzalez-Foerster’s exploration of notions of space, alternative states of consciousness, and interiority. The eight-minute experience begins by immersing viewers in a hypnotic, monochrome environment, before moving into an abstract visual space, in which bright color fields shift in response to the gaze and breath. The artwork draws on the artist’s experience of sound-induced cognitive trance with musician and author Corine Sombrun, who collaborated with the artist to create an accompanying soundscape.

If you already tried Endodrome, the new experience of Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Alienarium, is available at the Serpentine Gallery in London until the 4th September 2022.

  • CLAUDE MONET – the Water Lily obsession, part of an educational tour around Brazil!

The “Educativo Itinerante da Exposição Monet”, powered by The Museum of Immersive Roaming Arts, takes its educational content to public school students through a school tour,  including the VR experience “Claude Monet – the Water Lily obsession” directed by Nicolas Thépot and co produced by Lucid Realities, Arte France and Orsay & Orangerie Museums, starting in May 2022 and ending in June 2023 in 91 Brazilian cities.

The intention of the “Educativo Itinerante da Exposição Monet” is to bring art closer to at least 9000 school students, and in particular Monet’s artworks. Educators planned to take to public schools a part of the immersive exhibition “Monet à Beira d’Água” (“Monet by the Water”) on display at Olympic Boulevard in Rio de Janeiro.

Students can “meet” Claude Monet in the schoolyard and have a conversation with him about his paintings and the secret of Impressionism, the movement that transformed landscapes into colorful paintings without many details but full of beauty and meaning.

Through different activities, students get closer to his art and learn while having fun. However, the activities that reach schools the most mainly rely on the help of technology.

Virtual reality immerses students even more into the artist’s history and masterpieces, by showing them where he lived and by making them hear his thoughts. That’s why Lucid Realities’ VR experience  Claude Monet – the Water Lily obsession is a fundamental part of this traveling project.

This contemplative VR experience invites people on a sensory journey starting off in Claude Monet’s garden, stopping along the way at the workshop of the artist and ending in the exhibition rooms of the Orangerie Museum. It is possible to relive a perpetual renewal of nature, to explore time and space while immersed in the Water lilies paintings.

  • ALIENARIUM unveiled at the Serpentine Gallery

After Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster’s last project TH.258 presented at the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in 2008, the French artist returns to the UK with a new exhibition at the Serpentine: Alienarium 5. The exhibition features almost entirely new works, conceived for the Serpentine, including the artist’s new VR artwork, Alienarium.

Curated by Claude Adjil, Curator at Large and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director, Alienarium 5 is a vision resulting from over twenty years of the artist’s explorations into science-fiction, alien life, and her experiments in deep space. From her ‘Chambres’, an early series of highly-stylised fictional or personal interior spaces defined by a certain color and mood, to her ‘Apparitions’ – ongoing live and holographic conjurings of fictional and non-fictional characters – this speculative environment designed by the artist shapeshifts between diverse media and invites us to imagine possible encounters with extraterrestrials.

In the frame of the exhibition, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster unveils Alienarium, a commission supported by VIVE Arts developed by Lucid Realities. This new multi-user VR experience invites us to encounter extraterrestrial beings and inhabit their glowing, abstract forms. Alienarium offers an interactive way to dive into an experimental universe that aims to bring together human, non-human and extraterrestrial encounters in an alternative space environment, stimulating other forms of connection and communication.

Designed specifically for the Serpentine, the whole exhibition is free and open to the public from the 14th April to the 4th September 2022.
